On August 12, 2011 Troop 814's Scouts were requested to help serve our country's veterans dinner at Elks Lodge 216.  This has become an annual event for our Scouts and is an honorable way for them to honor the men and women who have served our country.
This year we had a great turn out. Ten Scouts and 3 dads showed up to represent Troop 814.  The Scouts were there early to help set up before the veterans arrived.  They placed eating utensils along with a deck of cards given by the Lodge to the veterans.
Once the veterans started arriving the Scouts started serving drinks and escorting the veterans to the tables.  With everyone anticipating a great dinner of BBQ chicken, potato salad, and beans, dinner was finally served.  Each scout helped serve a plate of the delicious meal to the veterans attending the dinner.  After dinner the Scouts also served a peach cobbler dessert.
But not only did the scouts served dinner they were there to talked and listen to the veterans. A way of creating comradery between the veterans and the Scouts.
Well after serving all the guest all attending Scouts and Scouters were treated to the same meal that was served to the veterans.  So not only did these Scouts experience the joy of helping others but they were fed and even got service hours for their attendance.
But most of all from the looks on their faces the Scouts gain something more important - PRIDE.
